growing fast!

So - now I am on bedrest and the lovely picture this week is of me in my jammies. And I am sorry to be standing the wrong direction to make a great comparison. But I do feel like I am much bigger in my 22 week shot (pink shirt) than the 21 week (green). Wow.

The EVIL bedrest!!

Well, I FINALLY talked to the nurse at my doctor's office. They didn't find it necessary to call me back yesterday as I wasn't having symptoms anymore. But I was up all night again with cramps, so I am back on bedrest. YUCK!!! And the new and not so exciting news is that from this point forward I am instructed to drive to St Pete to be checked out at the hospital with every twinge. The nurse says it is possible that we will be in St Pete a LOT from here on out. Wish me luck!

Triplet 'stuff'

We have either splurged, registered or had dreams of a few baby items that will hopefully offer a helping hand to us with the triplets. I had to share a few of them.

First of all we bought three wubbanubs thinking they may help if the babies are paci-lovers. We have the duck, the monkey and a puppy. They can be held by the baby, tucked in a swaddled blanket or easily found in the crib at night. Totally washing machine washable. And CUTE! We bought one at the Learning Express and the other two I ordered online (quite a bit cheaper)!

I registered for the podee hands free bottles. How helpful do they look for feeding three?! Cool.

We are getting a hand me down peg perego for triplets. I can't wait to take them on their first walk!

We are also getting a hand me down twin baby carrier of some sort. I think this could be helpful. I know there is a triplet version out there somewhere too. I hear it helps to free up hands with fussy babies! We'll see.

And when they are older we will look into the Step 2 wagons. They look great for our trips to the farmers market, the zoo or even walks. How cute!

Plastic Tag-mania

I think nesting is a full time job. My poor husband is constantly working on my list of crap to do around this house! Today we tried to relax as much as possible, but I couldn't keep my hands off the nursery totally. I sat on the floor and cut tags off of clothes and blankets this afternoon. I really think someone should come up with a much better system! Finding both plastic ends is a tough job! Now things are ready to wash. Ahhh... I feel better!

a fun weekend

We were in Fort Myers this weekend for my sister in law's baby shower. It was SO much fun to watch her open all of those awesome baby gifts!! And there were a few babies at the shower, so it was really exciting to take in the baby-ness of it all! Pete's aunts were here from Kentucky. And the weather was amazing!

I didn't really do ANYTHING that required ANY energy. But just the day, the lack of napping and a little extra being on my feet sort of threw me over the edge for some reason. I actually had to leave the restaurant that evening, ruining the nice family outing to go lay in the tub and let my body rest. I was shocked and overly emotional to find out how wiped out I was!! I am better this afternoon after getting home and taking a nice long nap in my own bed.

I guess I've had a couple of noticeable contractions. I don't like them. I plan to call the doctor tomorrow just to chat with the nurse and make sure all is okay. The home health nurse is coming on Wednesday to talk about monitoring for pre-term labor and discuss home infusions in case I would need meds to stop contractions at some point. I am already taking pills that I started over a month ago when I was cramping often. Ugh.

I have learned that I need to drink, drink, drink and stay away from salt to keep from having palpitations. If I am hydrated, I am fine. And then I make trip after trip after trip to the bathroom! It is amazing to realize how tough these babies are on a woman's body. The triplets seem to be doing great though. They are movers and shakers. There is rarley a moment that someone isn't tumbling or kicking me! It is so awesome to feel them as much as I do. It's so reassuring! And tomorrow I will be 22 weeks? Amazing.

weights

The appointment went 'okay' today. Actually I think it was great. But, I have a BAD case of mommy nerves!! We had a different ultrasound tech today and she was VERY stabby and wasn't able to get us any recognizable great pix. Which is fine. She got all of her measurements and they weighed the babies. Tyler is now way, way, way up high under my ribs and weighs 15 ounces. Thomas and Reagan are both 12 ounces. I read that the average weight is 12-15 ounces this week. So all should be good right? But I can't stop wondering why they are SO different? I asked the doctor and he just shrugged and said babies sometimes grow at different rates and we will just watch it. But this still doesn't settle my nerves! Oh well. They are kicking and thriving and I know I shouldn't worry. I guess(BIG = Healthy)in my mind. Deep breaths...

And then we wandered over to the NICU for our tour with the director. She was AWESOME! She took us right in and let us see the equipment and the rooms. I spent time in a NICU in nursing school doing an internship and it was one giant room full of babies. But this was a whole new concept. Each baby has it's own room! Like a little ICU with glass doors. The family has a storage closet in their room and reclining chairs and the whole works. However, they have to graduate out of the initial more critical room first and will most likely be separated from each other at the beginning. And the multiples room is really geared for twins. But the nurses said they will try to plan a way to get all of our babies close together. We were told the babies will stay until very close to their due date. And a delivery around 32-34 weeks is our goal. So we will be spending a LOT of time in the NICU!

Seeing those LITTLE tiny babies just made me more concerned about my babies weights. So daddy is working really hard on cheering me up and telling me how Tyler is just an over-acheiver and a chunky little monkey! Obviously the doctor wasn't concerned, he says we will look at their hearts in two weeks and wait a month to recheck weights. This mommy business is keeping me on pins and needles already!!!

I had the radio on a country station this morning and all three babies were kicking away. So, daddy is very happy that we may have taught them to like country music at a very early age. Too funny.

Highlight of the day... A long overdue pedicure! It was heavenly.

Ok - I haven't had any comments in a week. And I had an email yesterday saying someone couldn't comment and now another today. If you know me and can't comment. Can you please email me - so I know there really is a problem? Hmmm...

21 week belly = HUGE

Week 19

Vs. Week 21
It seems much bigger to me. But the picture only really makes it look a little higher than two weeks ago. I don't know. I am huge!

The closet!

Pete put the last coat of paint on the newly renovated closet in the nursery! We took off the doors and put in some drawers for extra storage. There is no room in the nursery for a dresser, and this works perfectly! The white and clean look of it helps to brighten up the darker tones in the room. I love it!! Good Job Daddy!

Baby Showers!

I have always felt like I was the last woman I knew to be getting pregnant. Most of my childhood friends are not only mommies, but have kids in junior high or some even in high school! And my brother's kids are already soon to be 10 and 12. Sigh... But suddenly I am surrounded by pregnant people! It's amazing. I have a sister in law and 3 friends all due to have babies within a month of each other. Very fun!

So yesterday we tackled some registry lists at Target and Babies R Us. Oh my. I didn't know the buying end of it would be such a pain! Online you can see pictures and get a clue of what you would want to buy. But in the store (especially BB R Us) you just get this overwhelming printout of items by name, no pictures and no prices!! It was a nightmare trying to do several lists. So we finally figured out to stick with one registry at a time. I had a fun time picking things out for myself with my mom, but hope it won't be as painful for people to understand my list as it was for us to look at everyone else's!

And let's talk maternity clothes. Ugh. After the struggles we went through to get pregnant, and the fact that we are having THREE babies at once, this is very, very likely my only pregnancy. I don't leave the house often and didn't think I needed much for maternity clothes. BUT, at this point I am HUGE. And NOTHING fits. I have some great pj's that ride very low and are my favorite thing to wear. (thanks to Old Navy!) But the expensive maternity jeans already are too tight. That nice comfy, stretchy band is now a suffocating, tight pain in the belly! And I have 4 showers to attend, so I need to figure out what to wear!! I got a really cute dress that is perfect for church, but a little dressy for baby showers except maybe my own. And I ordered a couple online that just look like giant sacks, so they are going back to the store. I don't want to spend a bunch of money as I will only wear things for a tiny bit longer. So, I tried on every dress I could find in Target today and although they fit now, they WON'T by next month when I need them. I don't know what to do. Maybe I can just wear my jammies. :)

Moving right along

I am already through most of this week again, and soon to be 21 weeks. Time is flying now. The high risk nurse calls me with a checklist of things to discuss on a regular basis. And yesterday asked about us getting the room ready at this point. And it is!! I am so happy about that! It does make me nervous to realize that some mom's are already in and out of the hospital or on IV drips for contractions at home. I am hoping to be one of the lucky mommies that can make it 8-10 more weeks here before dealing with that. But the nurse keeps bringing me back to reality! We shall just keep praying!!

Pete is a funny t-shirt wearing kind of guy. And I have been bored with mom gone. So I spend my time online!! I found a couple of somewhat cute tees for daddy today.

So yeah, my mom is back in England. It was really nice having company and tons of help around the house. I look around at the dishes and laundry piling up, and wonder when daddy and my motivation will return! LOL

My brother was also here for a night before heading back to Iowa after a little R&R in Florida. They bought us a swing and some adorable blankets! So we did find the energy to put up the swing last night. I HAD to see it set up. So it's in the front room and ready for a baby! I love it. Thank you!!!!

Oh, and the cravings. It's not like I pull some random food out of left field. But I taste something and just gotta have more!! My brother and sister in law and I went to lunch at LeeRoy Selmon's yesterday. I had peach cobbler with yummy ice cream for dessert. And it stuck in my mind ALL DAY. So when Pete came home and wanted some grub, I convinced him that we should go to LeeRoy Selmon's. Yep, it's true, I hit a new low. And I got my second helping of peach cobbler. I wonder if the waiter recognized me from a few hours earlier. OH MY.

Stick a fork in me.

My belly has rapidly been growing, and growing, and growing. Today I am back to this 'yucky' feeling that I can't explain. I just want someone to stick a pin in me and let me fly around the room to let the pressure out of my gut! I can only imagine how much worse this will be in a few weeks. WOW! We will do another belly picture after the appointment next week.

The Nursery!

Bananas!

It's the start of week 21. Which amazes me, so I had to post the food comparison today!
Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for hydration and nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies are most interested in tastes they've already experienced through amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you want your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.

Kicks!

The babies are kicking now! Before it was movement and bubbles and tumbling. But now it's KICKS!! I have been feeling them for a few days and I love it.

We will try finish up the room tonight. Next week we will finish the built in closet. Stay tuned for pictures!!

It's a jungle in here!!

LOOK WHO SHOWED UP ON MY FRONT DOORSTEP!! What a wonderful shocking surprise!! My mom's friend Louise sent this to us. It is perfect for the nursery. This is only a sneak peak of the corner of the nursery - as the room is not done yet. And I am waiting to share it when it's done. But I HAD to show you our new giraffe. All three babies have giraffes on their bedding - and this just makes the room. THANK YOU LOUISE!!!

Cantaloupes!

Baby's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation... baby's genitals are now fully formed!

19 week appointment

All three babies were lying on their back with their feet in the air today. Heartbeats were great with rate being 150-160 for all three. I gained a pound in the past two weeks. I was complaining of a heavy pressure and soreness - which is totally normal. And my palpitations are okay - but I need to drink a gallon of water a day now to try help that. I hate water, but Crystal Light is okay. So we'll try that! I will be back for another check in two weeks!

Oh - and here are Reagan's feet. HOW CUTE?

Belly at 19 weeks

Another lonely Monday!

Wow! Those floating babies are HUGE today! And guess what? So is my belly! We will work on a good belly shot this week. I am just pregnant EVERYWHERE. And the strange thing is - I have only gained a few pounds and yet I fit into NOTHING. I can't imagine how big I will get before this is over!

We had a good visit to the hospital (The Baby Place). It is BRAND new and just opened it's doors a month ago. They relocated from another nearby hospital. So the staff is the same and they were able to help design this UNBELIEVABLY beautiful, family friendly place. Awesome!

It was a little bit embarassing. There were 30 in the group. And most all the mom's were due and ready to deliver. So they were all quite big. I look maybe 7 months pregnant or so now. And I fit in just fine when we were sitting in the room listening to the scoop. BUT, when we got up to go on the big tour. The nurses inside the doors of the hospital greeted me with a wheelchair. They knew I was having triplets and were NOT going to allow me to walk as they did not want me in preterm labor yet either. I immediately had GLARES and STARES. It was ridiculous. People were trying to figure out why I was so special. I think every mom needed one! Anyway, it would have been SO much better if they had just announced I had three babies in this belly. By the end, I think they all knew. We got to this one point in the tour where the nurse waved us up to the front and said WE needed to see this. It was the special hall and elevator that takes moms from the baby hospital to All Children's hospital where we can visit our NICU babies. And I didn't stand up to look in the regular nursery and the tour guide loudly said, you never know there was once a set of triplets that stayed in the regular nursery because they did SO well. And she patted my back. ANYWAY. We toured the rooms where I assume I will be admitted at some point during this journey. I pray that we will make it to the end without being admitted, but I am very realistically expecting to be stuck there someday soon. I am also praying for one of the waterfront Tampa Bay view rooms! BEAUTIFUL!

We checked out the amazing gift shop at the hospital. The most awesome baby store I have EVER seen. They had tons of preemie clothes sized at less that 3 pounds and up. It is an expensive grandma store more than one we would shop in. But fun to browse!!

It was a LONG day. We had gone to church in the morning before driving up to St Pete. We giggled because I am on the prayer list and was mentioned during the service. Peter wants to know when HE gets on that list!! We don't know many people at our new church yet. But we speak with the pastor every week. And people in the 3rd service are starting to recognize us. It was funny that a couple of people leaving the earlier service as we were walking in, asked if we were the triplet family. That is a good indicator of how big I am already huh? Ha. I am getting tired of the when are you due question. I don't say well August, but we know the babies will be here by the second week of June around 32 weeks. And blah, blah, blah. So - the new answer we give is June 8th. It saves a LOT of words!

Peter is becoming more and more 'medical' lately. He was a GREAT wheelchair driver. And this morning he goes for a second round of bloodwork in the past few months. He has a MAJOR needle phobia. But he will do anything for these kids!! And for me. :)

My mom stayed down at the beach to get things done at home, and will be back tonight. I will be so lonely without her today! I am enjoying the company and the help! Now that the cribs are up, we will be busy this week with the rest of the rooms details. I can't wait to post some pictures of our cute and VERY crowded little nursery. I LOVE it!

Mangoes!

Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil and dead skin cells (yum) now coats baby's skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might actually get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

crowded or just cozy?

The beach was a fantastic getaway. It was chilly, but the sunshine, palm trees, sand and sunsets on the ocean were beautiful!! And I am really enjoying the pampering from my mommy!

I came home last night to see that Pete had painted the trim in the nursery and set up all three cribs that came in on Friday. They are beautiful! We knew the room would be crowded. But oh man, is it crowded in there. And it's absolutely adorable! Mom is working on a valance. We need to get the mattresses so we can make up the crib bedding. We are waiting on letters to paint so I can have their names hung above their beds. And we don't have the changing table yet. So - you will have to be patient. I am waiting to complete a few more details before sharing pictures!

Coco, our curious cat, tried jumping into the crib last night. And she soon figured out there are no mattresses. And it's not very easy to land on just the metal springs. After almost killing herself, I wonder if she learned a lesson? Or will she try again.

Today we head to the hospital for tea and a tour of the mommy rooms, and NICU etc. I am looking forward to checking everything out. I can't believe I will be starting my 20th week! I guess time really is flying. I have another appointment on Tuesday. I haven't felt a ton of movement lately but have been busy and my mind has been occupied. So - I can't wait to get another peek at the kiddos and check out how they are doing!

The final bedding set!

We are now registered at Babies R Us. And I am EXHAUSTED! So - now it's time for a few days of relaxation.

Isn't Reagan's bedding CUTE?! I love it. And all three sets together actually look adorable!

Grandma is here!

Mom made it here from the UK. She brought tons of baby clothes and some adorable giraffes and bears for the babies from Harrods!! We got started with our registries yesterday. So I am officially registered at Target and we will head to Babies R Us today to tackle that. I was totally exhausted after the Target run, and I was even sitting in a wheelchair the whole time! I am just so glad to have my mom here to help out.

It was an expensive day. Our power had been out most of Monday. I guess a small animal had been zapped in the transformer and the surge blew out all of our neighborhood AND our fairly new bedroom flat screen. I have a terrible habit of sleeping with the TV on. And after an entire night without sleep, my wonderful hubby purchased the replacement before we went to bed last night! Sad, I know. AND, our much anticipated fridge arrived yesterday. The side by side was in desperate need of repacement. So we bought a french door stainless fridge with PLENTY of room for bottles!! I love it. And again I was glad my mom was here to work her magic cleaning up the old one once we moved it to the garage, and loading all of the food back into the new one.

Our county has a program that helps new moms with education and nutrition etc. I received a call from a nice woman yesterday that went through all the 'scoop' with me. We qualify for a ton of programs just because we are having triplets. So I am now signed up for free baby care and CPR. Daddy has never even changed a diaper, so we planned to do this at the hospital. But it is FREE through the county vs the 50 dollars a class at the hospital. And I will now have a nutritionist that meets with me in our home. And our babies qualify for more things once they arrive, we will learn more about that soon. So - it was a great phone call. And I have no shame in accepting some help!

This week is a busy one, and I am really looking forward to the weekend at the beach. It isn't going to be 'jump in the Gulf of Mexico' warm. But it will be near70. That is perfect sit on the lanai and stare at the ocean weather. And next week it is supposed to finally be mid to high 70's and we are looking forward to the warm up!!
